When you require replacement upvc or wood double glazing in your property you may change its visual appearance. You should carefully choose a Window style that matches and enhances the features of your property. This is more important when having replacement double glazing fitted to an older Property. Particularly where sliding sash windows are required whether there wood or pvcu. In a conservation area the requirements quite often favours wooden windows and doors over pvcu. It is good Practice to compare homes in your area too yours and try to visualize the different replacement window and door options.

So weather they are casement, bay, bow, box bay, sliding sash, tilt and turn, white, rosewood, mahogany, Irish oak, or any other color or design, wood, composite or upvc options you need to find a highly recommended double glazing company to help in this process.

The amount of window openings you have is important, it’s true that more straight forward window layouts have fewer openings and are typically “cheap windows”. Ideally we all get a top quality window for a cost effective price. But it’s simply not wise to have a cheap window by cutting back on the window openers, in some cases window openings have to be of a particular size as regulated by Fensa and certass.

When updating from or too double glazed windows in a “listed building” or a “conservation area” you may be trying to decide between upvc or wood windows and wooden or composite doors, Planning permission may be required ,if you are “converting” a flat window into a “bow” or “bay” window. Check this with the local authority don’t take a double glazing salesman’s advice as fact as it’s you responsibility.

Fitting double-glazing replacement windows from existing single glazed windows does cut down the noise from outside particularly when they have Q-Lon Gaskets fitted and the glazing units have a energy of at least a “C” grade or greater, the greater the “air gap” between the two panes of glass the better the sound insulation. This differs slightly between upvc and wooden windows.

Upvc or wood Double-glazing will reduce heat loss from your home on par as long as there energy ratings are the same these are calculated in “A” “B” OR “C” energy rated grades and having any of these grades whether there wood/ timber windows or upvc windows over a lower existing grade window or door will lower your heating bills.

There is a common misconception that upvc windows and doors are more efficient than timber/wooden windows or doors, this is not the case. It is also untrue that upvc windows and doors will need less maintenance than timber/wooden options because in the last few years Wooden windows and doors have in some cases surpassed the guarantees offered by upvc manufacturers . You need to check all these guarantees are in place.
