Where once used in farmhouses and character cottages, stable doors have since been reinvented to become a popular choice among modern day homeowners, thanks to their functionality, quaint aesthetic and practical benefits.
Earlier this year, Emerald introduced a brand-new range of high quality composite stable doors, shown to provide a host of benefits, when used as a front or back door.
To find out if a new stable door is the perfect solution for your home, continue reading our short blog.
Unlike a traditional entrance door, a stable door is split into two sections, so that you can open the top part of the door independently by securely locking the lower half of the door.
Due to the dual opening of a stable door, they are extremely practical for several reasons. Pet owners, or parents of young children, in particular, will benefit from a stable door, as they are able to answer the door by opening the top section only, to prevent animals or children from escaping.
As well as this, they are ideal for improving ventilation in your property, without compromising on security. Rather than having to leave the back door wide open and constantly worrying about animals or children running in and out unattended, the top half of the door can be opened to allow for an influx of natural light and fresh air. High security comes as standard with our composite stable doors as they come fitted with multipoint locking systems, protecting you and your family from any unwanted visitors.
When comparing a composite stable door with a traditional composite door, the stable door will tend to be more expensive by roughly £300.
Now you understand the unique features of a stable door, you must decide between a uPVC stable door or a composite stable door.
Whilst we offer both uPVC and composite, on most occasions we recommend opting for a composite door, as they are extremely secure and thermally efficient. Read everything you need to know about the benefits of a composite door here.
Like all our windows and doors, our stable doors are extremely versatile, with a wide range of colours, style, glass, and furniture combinations available, meaning they can be made suited to a modern or traditional property.

There is a misconception that uPVC is cheaper than composite, which is not always the case. If you want a white stable door, there is little to no difference in price between uPVC and composite, whereas if you want a stable door with a colour, such as Anthracite Grey or Chartwell Green, the uPVC option will tend to be more expensive by roughly £150.
