It’s not so long ago that shutters were associated with two things: spaghetti westerns and holiday villas in Spain. Neither seemed to have any links with the UK – received wisdom had it that we were too wet and cold a country to entertain anything so exotic as the sun-blocking shutter.
Today, though, is a different story. Window shutters are increasingly popular among householders living in properties of all shapes, sizes and styles. From the traditional Georgian townhouse to the ultra-modern eco-home, plantation shutters have become headline news.
They’re suitable for all rooms, from big bay windows to smaller apertures in the bathroom. Unlike curtains or blinds, once shutters are closed at night a sense of peace seems to descend across the room. The outside world has been firmly excluded and all extraneous noise has gone. It’s now time to relax….
During the day, shutters act as a natural dimmer switch, allowing you to fine-tune how much light enters the room through the slats, helping to reduce glare. Additionally, shutters help to maintain even temperatures right throughout the year, locking in heat during the winter and allowing a cooling effect in the summer.
Our modern faux wood shutters are a great option for any home, with styles and finishes to suit any window, taste or budget. Because our shutters are made in the UK we can offer a short lead time of just six weeks, beating many other companies who buy shutters from abroad.
What else makes our shutters different? Well, for a start they’re reinforced with an aluminium core, making them extremely strong and not susceptible to warping. They’re also completely waterproof, meaning that they can be installed in bathrooms and wet rooms, plus they have a fire-resistance limit of more than three hours.
As mentioned, we sell a variety of shutter styles, frames and hardware, all in a huge range of colours. So let’s have closer look at our options:
These panel shutters are designed to cover only the lower section of the window. This style offers both privacy and a flood of natural light to enter through the exposed glass. This style is an excellent choice for rooms that require privacy over maximum light reduction, for example living rooms and kitchens, and for any other rooms that might face the road.
Our tier shutters are designed for maximum flexibility in any room. The top and bottom panels operate independently of each other, making these shutters an extremely popular choice for road-facing windows, bay windows or living room windows where flexibility is needed.
Our full height shutters are the most popular choice among our customers. As the name suggests, full height shutters are designed to cover the full window height, and there are options for the top third or top half to operate independently of the rest, allowing privacy and light to be fully controlled.
These work in a similar way to bi-fold doors, in that they slide open and concertina back for easy access. They are particularly useful for patio doors.
As far as frame types go, we have three options:
Now to tilt options. Choose from Centre Tilt Rod, Offset Tilt Rod or our most popular choice, Hidden Tilt Rod. Centre and offset tilt rods. The centre tilt is placed in the centre of the shutter panels, adding detail, while the offset can be placed on either side of the panel for a less prominent effect. The hidden tilt mechanism is located within the side stile of the panel, and tilting the louvre blades is done by moving one louvre by hand, which will tilt all the louvres within that section simultaneously.
Finally, as far as colour options go, we currently have two ranges for our shutters, including
Whatever your style of house and personal taste, we can find shutters in the right finish and colour. They’d be a perfect match for a set of heritage windows, or a set of bifold doors for example, adding a whole new layer of grace and charm to your property.
